The key strengths that I possess for success in art education include:

  • I have successfully designed, developed, and implemented Art Modules in Arts and Crafts, Drawing   (including Figure Drawing) Painting, Print Making, Puppet making, Photography and Graphic Design
  • I have had a broad exposure to artistic practice and theory (including Art History)
  • I can provide exceptional contributions to learner development through my enthusiasm, my highly developed listening and communication skills, as well as my artistic knowledge, current practice and experience.

  • I have experience teaching both children and adults

  • I feel confident in my ability to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and have plenty of experience and skill in public relations and customer service.
  • I bring my own unique approach to Art Making and Art Education (including my exposure to the Waldorf Curriculum) which I am certain can enhance a learning environment.

With Bachelor and Master Degrees in Fine Art, and a Diploma in Adult Education, I have a good understanding of both Contemporary Art practices and current Educational Theory and practice, as well as experience in teaching both children and adult learners ranging from age five to 65.

For my Teacher Training, I designed and implemented several art courses (as listed above) for both teenage and adult learners, and I have a wide range of experience and skill. I also have a variety of experience in a many other mediums including cartooning, ceramics and textiles, wall murals,  collage, and most recently, sandblasted wooden signs (see my portfolio).

Teaching and Art related Work Experience

Current Work:  Art and Soul Collage Workshops: Private monthly group, also at ‘Home of Om’, Calgary.

Teacher Trainee Work Placement: Access to Art and Design: City College Norwich, Adult Education 19+:

  • design and implement demos and workshops in drawing/painting/screen print, etching, collograph, photo transfer, digital manipulation, photo shop),
  • one-to-one tutorials, group crits, assessments, exhibition set up, etc.
  • Marking and assessing work, giving feedback, year end exhibition

As part of a teaching team I helped design and implement a scheme of work covering the college year (three terms). I also held specific teaching duties as per the above.

Phoenix Plus: GCSE Foundation Photography ages 16 +

  • Responsible for students re-entering college level courses who had been outside the system for some time.
  • Implemented and designed workshops and demos with main focus of one-to-one support .
  • Ongoing evaluation, support and awareness of personal issues as an important part of this position.
  • Highly developed empathic listening and communication skills were very useful in this setting, including encouraging creative processes, helping with goal setting and developing positive outcomes..

Private Art Tuition: Norwich Norfolk, 2007:

  • Job: personal assistance/ tuition/advice in preparation for upcoming art exhibit.
  • one to one communication skills used in guiding and assisting a mature student towards fulfillment of her personal art show.
  • Experience with drawing and painting as well as portraiture to help support her in completing her work and prepare it for exhibition.

 Graduate Teaching Assistant:, Norwich College of Art and Design. January-June 2007

  • Job: Running Weekly Life Drawing Drop-in class:
  • Assist students in set up, one to one instruction/assistance, group demo’s, handouts, facilitate model i.e. poses, lighting etc.
  • I excel in a creative environment where I can go around and speak to learners about their work; guiding and supporting them through my knowledge, listening and communication to help them find their personal best.

Commercial Art:

  • Self Employed: creation of logos, business card design, general layout and design, newsletters
  • originally trained in commercial Art and Design at a Vocational Art High School and continue to study to increase skills in this area.(i.e. Photo shop etc)

 Puppet Making Workshops:: Calgary Public School Board Volunteer 1990:Ages 7-12

  • Responsible for supervision and instruction of groups of 8-20 children
  • Course planning, Preparation of Materials, Teaching of class including: demonstrations, technical teaching, storytelling, and plays.

Working as a volunteer in the public school system I designed and developed a few workshops which utilized  the creative and  integrative teaching skills learned in the Waldorf School environment :for example the ‘Head, Heart and Hands’ approach to learning (cognitive, emotional/experiential and kinesthetic). Wall Mural Project Sunnyside School Calgary AB, ages 7 to 9

  • Design and implement wall mural project
  • Supervise student participation in project over several sessions
  • co-ordinate and organize large group of fairly young children working on individual sections of mural
  • included organizing paint supplies, travel(walk)to site, safety onsite, use of materials, clean up etc
  • My rapport with young children as well as ability to take charge helped me handle this situation with ease and skill.

 Calgary Waldorf School, Alberta, Canada:

  • Founding member: helped start and run the Calgary Waldorf School
  • Board member (parent/teacher liaison),
  • Policy making and implementation, curriculum planning, teacher hiring, parent teacher liaison, fundraising
  • Designed and implemented Arts and Crafts program for several grades
  • Teacher Assistant and Arts/Crafts Teacher Grades 1-5.

 Waldorf Schools have a particularly artistic approach to educating children. Creativity is seen as an integral part of learning and is incorporated into every aspect of the curriculum. I learned an immense amount from my time in this exceptional learning environment, and I bring these elements into all of my teaching.
